OBITUARIES

August “Gus” Volpone, age 99, passed away August 1, 2021 in Geneva. Born March 6, 1922 in Ashtabula to Donato and Maria Volpone, he was the last surviving child out of 11. Gus lived in Geneva most of his life, and married Marian Gaines February 28, 1944. He joined the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. He served overseas in New Guinea and stated that he told his CO that he would take KP the entire time he was there if he could get out of night duty because he was deathly afraid of snakes.

Gus worked as an auditor in Cleveland, and was a member of The Geneva VFW and Lion’s Club. He was an avid bowler, liked to play golf, softball and coached little league in Geneva. Gus convinced people to build an outdoor basketball court in Geneva.

Survivors: Daughter: Diana Clarke of NM; Grandchildren: Robert Bigley and Jennifer (David) Brault; Great Grandchildren: Robert D & Shane Bigley; Caitlin & Lucas Canelo; Great Great Grandchildren: Noah, Ethan, Oliver & Austin.
