Obituary For Barbara B. (McColl) Stuetzer
Barbara B. Stuetzer of Geneva, age 95, passed away Saturday, 9 March, 2019. Barbara was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on August 4, 1923 to Alex and Laura McColl. She and her younger sister, Mary, grew up in Geneva. After graduating from Geneva High School, she attended the University of Cincinnati, attaining her Registered Nurse degree. Barbara married Fred J. Stuetzer, a Navy pilot, and moved with Fred to San Diego, CA, where their first two children, John and Alex, were born. Daughter Beth was born in Pensacola, FL on a subsequent tour of duty. After Fred completed his active duty, the family moved back to Geneva and Barbara was hired as the school nurse in the Geneva School System. Two more children came along, Becky and Scott, and Barbara continued to work for the school system. After the death of her husband, Fred, in 1958, Barbara went back to school and attained her teaching certificate. She remained working in the Geneva Area City School system, with jobs ranging from Physical Education teacher to ultimately retiring in 1985 as the first female Athletic Director in Ashtabula County.
