Obituary For David Ray Tinney

David R. Tiney 1951 ~ 2021

David Ray Tinney went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 3rd after a brief battle with Covid Pneumonia. David was born on October 1st, 1951 in Montgomery, WV and moved to Geneva, OH in 1967. He was a graduate of Geneva High School class of 1971. On July 22, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart Janet Nordquest.

He enjoyed building and flying RC planes, tanking and flying in his WW2 simulator game, playing cards, cuddling with his dog Ginger, rooting for the Cleveland Browns, Indians & Cavs and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered most for his kind and humorous demeanor, large smile, and big laugh.

David retired from Eckart America in Painesville, Ohio in late 2016 after 20 years of service as a Network Administrator. Prior to then David worked at RMI in Ashtabula Ohio, RB&W in Mentor Ohio and helped his family manage the Ben Franklin 5 & dime store in Geneva. David was a member of MARCS (Mentor Area Remote Control Society) and a member of the “Aces High” WW2 online flight simulator game in which he played for 20+ years. He and his wife Janet were also longtime members of the First Assembly of God in Ashtabula Ohio (now Cornerstone AOG).

David is survived by his son: Brian (Jennie) Tinney of Macedonia, sisters: Carol (John) McKendrick of Akron and Katy Davis of Conneaut, daughter-in-law Sabrina Tinney of Geneva, grandchildren Leann, Jacob, Darren & Brianna, and great granddaughters Acelynn & Bexlee. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul Edward and Elizabeth Rae Tinney, wife Janet Tinney, and son Jason Tinney.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Geneva UH ICU for their care and support.

Graveside service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery (St. Route 84) in Geneva, OH at 2pm on Monday, March 8th officiated by Pastor Steven Maugh of Faith Community Church.
