Obituary For Frank John Zehe Sr.

Frank John Zehe, Sr. 84 of Geneva passed away on November 9, 2021 of kidney failure at Geneva Medical Center. Frank grew up and lived in Thompson, Ohio until moving to Madison after years of marriage to Eileen where they raised 3 children Frank, Brenda and Debbie. After 18 years of marriage they divorced and he later moved to Geneva, Ohio and resided until 4 years ago when he moved to Saybrook Landing in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Frank worked at Addressograph & Multigraph, trimmed grapes, worked on their family owned 70 acre farm, and then became self employed, owning A to Zehe Masonry, Inc. where he loved building houses from the foundation up, masonry and fireplaces which he did until his stroke in 1989 and that is when he starting the hobby of wood carving of eagles, horses, indians, sharks, whales, and so much more. What a talent he had and his eye for detail in his masonry work continued to shine through not only his wood carvings but everything he did.

Frank was a great father, brother, grandfather, and friend who loved spending time with his family, the outdoors, take a speed walk up Indian Point trails and get your time engraved on the plaque he designed, he played 2 years of football in high school in Thompson, although only winning one game back in the day, he was named All-County Tackle for Geauga County. He also loved jogging, watching Cleveland Browns football and would bet $1.00 on the game with his brother, son, son-in-laws, nephews, grandsons, and friends. He loved sweet treats of all kinds, ice cream, playing checkers, gardening, fishing for bluegill with his family at Rice Lake in Canada, squirrel hunting, Clint Eastwood movies, and Gunsmoke. He loved music of all kinds, Elvis, Neil Diamond, Charlie Pride, German Polkas, and any type of Polkas. He loved hosting his Annual Christmas Tree Decorating Party where he cooked a Garlic Ham which often looked like a black crater, but tasted amazing, garlic bread, and French Onion Soup. Music was playing while decorating the tree with the ornament that you brought, home baked goods, nuts, chocolate, and beer to sample while he enjoyed the whole family getting together. Then out came the games, jenga, checkers, board games, Acey Ducey, and Shuffle Board which he made. Winner received their name engraved on the ShuffleBoard trophy again he designed and took it home for the year. Everyone had their height carved on the growth board each year which was displayed in his hall. Thanksgiving and Easter (he loved stale PEEPS) was a yearly tradition to look forward to spending time on his brother Ed’s property which is part of the family’s 70 acres farm, where shooting your gun of choice at clay pigeons/skeet with all the family, cousins, friends, beer, good food, and of course, you best have brought your quarters. Someone always went home with a pocket full of coins, but, at the end when they ran out of pigeons, there was always that same person who lost his hat as it was used as the final round on who won the pot, boy he went through the hats.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents Mother, Margaret (Hoss) Zehe, Father, Frank Louis Zehe, Step Mother Mary (Schimick) Zehe, and Sister-in-law Betty(Spencer) Zehe.
