George W. Coates, age 89, passed away at home, Thursday, March 7, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 28, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois, to George S. and Elsie (Wilson) Coates. Married Ina M. (Nelson) on December 22, 1988 in Ripley, N.Y.

A self-employed entrepreneur in Construction Excavating and Demolition. He worked for Cameo Enterprises and also Emanon Enterprises. A member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 20 years, leading several leadership roles, including Deacon and President of church council, a greeter and an usher. A new member at Lake Erie Church of God and "Men of Valor" Bible Study group. George was the first African-American to be a member of Harpersfield Ruritan. Main things; church, family and work, that was George.

Survivors: Wife: Ina M. Coates; Children: George M. (Ruth) Coates; Penelope Coates; Alison (Rob) Gibson; Holly (Antonio) Oten; Gregory Coates; Todd Coates; Lesa Ray; Raven (Jeff) Proctor; Kenneth (Yvette) Wright; Christopher (Geri) Wright; 32 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren.

Preceded by: His parents; Grandsons: Jerome "Devin" Noble; and Robert Lee Baker.

Services: Visitation: 5:30-6:00 P.M. Monday, March 11, 2019, with a Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 P.M. at Lake Erie Church of God, 3050 Antioch Rd., Perry, Ohio, with Rev. Rich Boll officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St. in Geneva.
