Obituary For Gregory "Joe" J. Vliek
Gregory J. "Joe" Vliek, age 68, passed away November 29, 2018 at Trip-Point Medical Center, Concord. He was born November 28, 1950 in Cleveland, to Stanley J. and Gladys (Swansen) Vliek. Married Heather Angel (Patternac) on December 17, 2000 in Geneva. "Joe" was a Merchant Seaman, and worked/co-owned Vliek & Sons Painting Co., Owned Miracle Painting Co. He was a member of Seafarer's International Union (Brotherhood of the Sea). He enjoyed playing gospel music on his guitar. A talented artist who drew the Westcott boat on a U.S. Mail bucket-to transfer mail from land to ship. The U.S. Mail bucket is currently on display at the Dawson Marine Museum in Michigan.
Survived by: Wife: Heather, of Ashtabula; Children: Misty Shirer, of Madison; Matthew (Erica) Vliek, of Madison; Grandchildren: Jacob, Sarah, Emma Shirer, Hannah, Iszabelle, Matthew, Greysin Vliek. Great Grandson: Myles. Siblings: Chuck (Judy) Vliek, of Madison; John (Marilyn) Vliek, of Ashtabula; Debbie (Ditmar) Moegelin, of Lompec, CA.
