Obituary For Jean Elizabeth Ogden

Jean Elizabeth Ogden, age 101, went to the arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 8th, 2018 at the Geneva Village, Geneva, Ohio. Born March 13, 1917 in Weston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Swayzee L. and Sarah Elizabeth (Tinney) Herndon. A graduate of Jefferson High School, Jean spent most of her life in Northeast Ohio. Jean married Edwin Ogden in 1950.

Jean was an "Avon Lady" in the Geneva area for over 45 years. She drove and delivered her Avon orders into her 90's. As "guided by the Lord", Jean was always ready to witness to her family, customers, neighbors and especially the children in her neighborhood, desiring that "all would be saved". An active member of the United Church of Geneva since 1947, she served as 4th grade Sunday School teacher, on Mission Board, Deaconesses, in United Circle and "however the Lord led". Jean was still participating in the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group that she and June Pepin started in the 1960's.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Rose Reed of Rhode Island; several grandchildren including Dr. David Reed of Hilliard, OH; Navy Reserve Commander Michael Reed of Nashua, NH; Deborah Maxwell Jones and Gessi Conklin, both of Texas; several great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces including Alice Shiner of Pierpont; Beth Gonya and Patty Pines, both of Florida; Becky Peay of Minnesota; Suzette Clemons of Ohio; Marian Grace and Marlene Kovach, both of N. Madison; Marcia Dodge of Georgia; David Herndon of Kansas; and close friends and helpers, Phil and Cathie Schmidt of Geneva.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Glenn and Bob Conklin; stepson, Fred Ogden; sisters, Reva Cravener, Lucille Herndon and Chloe Herndon; brothers, Oris, Arley and Ralph Herndon.

Interment is Friday, November 16th at 2 P.M. at Evergreen Cemetery on Eastwood St. in Geneva. Memorial service is Saturday, November 17th, at 10 A.M. at United Church, 75 S. Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041 with Rev. Bryan Manary officiating. Flowers may be delivered to the church (440-466-2824) on Friday from 9 a.m. - noon, or donations may be made to Geneva United Church, Geneva Food Pantry or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
