Obituary For Jeannette Elizabeth Branham

Jeannette Elizabeth Branham (nee: Szewczyk), 85 of Geneva, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Bruno and Elizabeth (Malinkey) Szewczyk. Jeannette was a 1957 graduate of Geneva High School; after graduating she attended Cuyahoga County Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her Nursing Degree in 1960. After a brief stint working in California, Jeannette returned to her hometown and began working at Memorial Hospital of Geneva (UH of Geneva) where she worked for the next 46 years caring for many and being a mentor to coworkers. Her coworkers often referred to her as “Mother Branham”.

In her free time, Jeannette could be found reading one of her many favorite books, watching her favorite sport teams or spoiling her grandchildren. She loved cheering for her favorite football teams of Ohio State, Clemson and the Browns and when it came to summertime, the Guardians were the team to be watching.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Beth (Dave) Desmarais of Geneva and Michele Branham of Cleveland, her two sons, Michael Branham of Andover and Donald (Georgette) Branham of South Carolina; grandchildren, Donovan (Brianna), Joshua, Justin, Mikayla, Savannah (Will) and Nicole. Her great grandchildren: Snow, Wesley and Lucas; Siblings: John, Stephen (Cheryl), Bruno (Sue), Daniel, Barbara Sykes, Jules (Steve) McKinney, and Cathy (John) Fayewicz and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Michael “Mick”, her parents, sisters Patricia Green and Marion Szewczyk.

I have lots of wonderful memories with Aunt Jeannette. She was always a distant cheerleader during my time playing high school basketball and tennis. When I first joined the military, she sent me a Guardian Angel pin with the Guardian Angel prayer - I kept that in the heel of my boot the duration of my service. While deployed in the military, Aunt Jeannette always sent letters of encouragement, making it seem like I wasn't as far away as what it felt. She was one of the most thoughtful women I've had in my life and she will be greatly missed.

We are sorry for your loss. Jeannette was a kind and caring person. She helped countless people. She will live in their memories. I was the last and only patient in the obstetrics unit at Geneva. Jeannette was my mentor/nurse for the six days when Ryan was born. No way I would have made it without her. So calm. So patient. She even came to the house when I panicked. I will never forget her. Much love and sympathy to her family. Don and Liz Sims.

Jeanette was a wonderful mentor to me when I was a young RT at Geneva many, many years ago... I will always remember her fondly. Condolences to all.
