Obituary For Nancy Jean (Barnes) Scott

Nancy Jean (Barnes) Scott, 86, of Geneva, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, December 27, 2018. Nancy was born June 18, 1932 in Pierpont, Ohio to Ed and Pluma (Barnes) Wester. She was adopted by her maternal grandparents, William and Leila Barnes in 1936, and adopted back to her mother in 1949. A 1950 graduate from Geneva High School, Nancy was dubbed as "Always Happy." She was a telephone operator at Geneva Telephone Co. She was a secretary at AJ Egum Furniture Co. in Virginia. She worked at the Rhapsody Lounge in Geneva and became owner of the Grand River Manor until 1970. She was a longtime employee at Swallows Restaurant in Austinburg, and retired from Clay St. Inn in 1997. Nancy was a member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Geneva and was on the Altar Guild and Ladies Bowling League. She was a member at the Ashtabula and Geneva Senior Centers. She volunteered at The Salvation Army. She enjoyed seamstress work, gardening, miniature golf, conversations, and being with her family. She wrote anecdotes reflecting thoughts on family members. She is survived by her children: Richard (Darla) Ales, Michele Ales (Mike) Boutin, James Ales, Jennifer (Scott) Yackmack; and Caroline Scott Pinney; grandchildren: Charles Ales, Jason Ales, Ryan (Valeryia) Bailey, Jessica and Justin Ales, Alycia Ales (Dylan) Holt, Sydney and Olivia Pinney, Carley and Eric Salay; great grandson Paul Bailey. She is preceded by parents Pluma Barnes and Ed Wester; first husband Dick Ales; second husband Glenn "Scotty" Scott. Services will be Saturday January 19, 2019 from 11:00AM to 1PM at Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva, Ohio. Interment at Mt. Pleasant at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bella Care Hospice, 1933 St. Rt. 45, Austinburg, Ohio 44010.
