Roberta Lee Gockerell “Bobby”

1939 – 2024

Roberta “Bobby” Lee Gockerell left this world a better place, her love and caring for her loved ones was great and never wavered. As a wife, mother and grandmother, she devoted her life to making those around her happy. Her faith in Jesus Christ was witnessed in how she lived life, she would praise his name often and to anyone.

She raised five sons, her first son Michael John Gockerell IV died as an infant, she gave birth to six boys. She met her husband, the love of her life, Michael John Gockerell III at the Austinburg Roller Rink. She was visiting from where she lived in Painesville, Ohio, the place of her birth.

Bobby was a member of the Geneva Church of the Nazarene, where she would on occasion play the organ and sing her praises to The Lord. She developed many lifelong friendships there; her neighbor and Pastor Shirley Deemer was her go to spiritual counselor.

She would often be seen riding her bicycle near their home in Harpersfield, stopping to visit with neighbors along the way, Darla Schebal and Helen Stockwell were a couple of her favorite stops. She would often be seen hanging clothes on the line to dry, a labor of love for her family. Pupper, a family dog, would often be by her side or following, he was Mickey’s and Ed’s dog and such a part of the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael John Gockerell III, the built a home together doing almost everything from clearing the land to building the structures. Their sons provided much of the labor and they too took great pride in their beautiful place of residence.

She was also preceded by two sons Michael John Gockerell IV and Brian Keith Turkovich. Her sister, Patricia Sherlock and brother, Butch Custin left this world before her, as did her parents, Charles and Thelma Loomis.

Surviving her are, Clinton Roy Gockerell of Geneva, Ohio; Darrick James Gockerell of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Andrew James Gockerell of Geneva and Edward Michael Gockerell of Selma, North Carolina.

As much as we will miss Roberta, Mom, we know she is in her heavenly home and no longer suffering from what was an extended illness during which time, her son Darrick James directed her care and saw to her needs.

As she would say, Praise the Lord!

Calling hours will be Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home, 828 Sherman St., Geneva.

A Memorial Service will follow immediately after with Pastor Rich Meier of Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene officiating.

Interment: Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Harpersfield Cemetery, St. Rt 307, Harpersfield
