Obituary For Vernon Mullins
Vernon Mullins, age 82, of Geneva, died peacefully Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 19th, 1935 in Hartley, KY, to Perry Mack and Ethel (Tackett) Mullins.
Vernon served in the Army for 2 years and was stationed in Fort Devens, MA. He assisted the Medics in the 5th Field Hospital. He achieved the rank of Sp4 E-4 (T) upon his discharge. Vernon moved to Geneva and one of his first jobs in the area was for the Industrial Rayon Corporation. He then went on to work for Geneva True Temper Company, and eventually retired from Avery Denison after 17 years as a machine operator. Vernon enjoyed bowling and has 3 perfect games to his credit, hunting, fishing, gardening, working on his house and property, and being outdoors. Vernon enjoyed watching Kentucky Wildcats basketball and Ohio State football along with local Cleveland sports teams. He also enjoyed traveling back home to Kentucky to visit family and friends and made the trip yearly. Vernon loved spending time with family and friends, and for many years hosted an annual Labor Day family reunion on his property in Harpersfield.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Ann (Johnson) Mullins; daughters Kathleen Rice and Lisa Mullins, and son Thomas Mullins, all of Geneva; grandchildren Pamela Autry, Phillip Rice, Michael Rice, Angela Whitman, and Ryan Mullins; great grandchildren Michael Fogle and Joshua Rice; brothers Hurley (Nora) Mullins and Kenneth (Shirley) Mullins, of Hillsboro, KY, Homer (Jean) Mullins & LD (Polly) Mullins of Virgie, KY; sisters Violet Faye (Dan) Beasley of Marshall, NC, Mary Mullins of Wyandotte, MI, and Dorothy Bentley of Melvindale, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry Mack and Ethel Mullins, and 1 brother, Royce Mullins.
Calling hours will be from 5-7pm on Tuesday Dec 12h at Walker Funeral Home in Geneva. Service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday Dec 13th at 11:30am Clergy Rev. Harry Pishcura of New Life Assembly of God, Geneva. Burial at Harpersfield Twp. Cemetery.
