Obituary For William "Bill" Pitkin

Bill Pitkin, age 74, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024. He was a 1968 graduate of Geneva High School and married his high school sweetheart, Leah Woodworth on August 31, 1968 in Geneva, before entering the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he was an Ashtabula County Deputy Sheriff, had his own business as an independent rep for audio-visual equipment, and was an assistant security director at Tripoint Hospital.

He was a man of deep faith and showed his love for God through so many years of teaching Sunday School, teaching Disciple class, working with the Youth Group, and being actively involved in almost every element of the Geneva United Methodist Church. Married for almost 56 years, he was always a caring, loving, respectful and supportive husband. A man of patience and thoughtfulness who will forever be missed.

He was thrilled to be Dad to three girls, even when they were teenagers. He was always supporting all of them in their activities and their interests. Even coming home after a hard day at work or being on the road, he would laugh to see any number of girls sleeping on the living room floor. He would be up bright and early in the morning making them all pancakes for breakfast. With kids constantly changing plans, waiting for girls to shop, picking up their friends, running kids to practices, etc…, he never lost his patience. It was a good thing he liked to read a book while waiting!

He was blessed and honored to be a Godfather to three beautiful children whom he loved very much and felt very loved by them. Being Papa to four grandchildren was a wonderful joy in his life. He always showed love and support in all they did. He loved to listen to them, to be around them, to tease and laugh with them. They all brought him so much happiness and pride.

Even though he traveled a lot for work when he was a sales representative, he found time to be very involved in church, a chaperone for high school band events, a Kiwanis member and a Mason. He loved being with his family, traveling, camping, bowling, fishing and playing cards.

He has three children, Tina McNulty, Renee Pitkin, and Kim (Chris) Abney, four grandchildren, Connor McNulty, Camryn McNulty, Carlin McNulty and Kaylie Abney, and a half-sister Janice Palmer. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Catherine Reed, his parents Lucille & Charles Pitkin, his step-father Charlie Frisco, and his loving in-laws, Ina & Lawrence Woodworth.

Walker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Services will be Monday, July 1, 2024 at the Geneva United Methodist Church, 89 South Broadway, Geneva. Calling hours will be 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Military honors will be conducted by Geneva VFW Color Guard Post 6846 before the Memorial Service at 4:00 pm with Pastor Jim George and Rev. Chuck Oplinger officiating. There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall with food and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Geneva United Methodist Memorial Fund.

Interment: Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva.
